Then the relationship between Jane and Rochester came across as rather passionless and a little dull I think too. Why do I think this? Well, firstly there are scenes that do feel very glossed over, while the final twenty minutes are very condensed and rushed. However, I did feel that the passion of the book was lost here. Fiona Shaw, Joan Plowright and Geraldine Chaplin also acquit themselves very well in their respective roles. In terms of casting, Anna Paquin is an excellent young Jane, while Charlotte Gainsbourg is quite spirited and fiery. The score is also excellent, and I liked the scenes in the orphanage. The scenery is breathtaking, the cinematography is exquisite and the costumes are beautiful. Starting with the redeeming qualities, it is exquisite to watch. This version isn't absolutely awful, but I would be lying if it is the best version, because it isn't. It is so beautiful with wonderful characters and a great passionate story. Scott versions of Rochester seemed a little more accurate. The Orson Welles, and especially George C. Rochester, played by William Hurt, is adequate for the part, though perhaps a bit too handsome for the role-the Rochester in the book was worldly but a bit darker and more brooding as a character.
Excitement") and it's even harder to believe that Rochester would fall for her. Anna Paquin as Jane appears way too young for the role and her character seems a bit too sterile and cold (not that Jane is supposed to be "Ms. However, there is a fundamental flaw in the casting of the two central characters. When it comes to the pacing, sets and script, this film is about equal to any other version. I love the book Jane Eyre and have seen just about every film version-some I have seen several times, in fact. Reviewed by MartinHafer 7 / 10 great movie BUT severely hindered by the casting decisions
